Stain Care

Tips on Stains
Most stains that are allowed to dry overnight will become more difficult to remove. This particularly applies to hot tea and coffee, and fruit drinks, as the acids they contain can permanently dye fabrics. So whenever possible always deal with spills and stains as soon as they happen.

Dealing with spills and stains.
In all instances, work from the outside towards the middle of the stain to prevent spreading of the stained area. If there is any solid matter in the staining material, this should be removed first using a spatula or other such blunt implement.
Using a white cloth or paper towel, (avoid coloured towels which may leak dyes), blot up all of the liquid from the spill. Spray the stained area with Chem-Dry's “Spot Remover” or, if not available, clean tepid water, gently agitate the area with a blunt implement such as the handle of a knife, and blot the area dry again.
Repeat the spraying and blotting process several times until the blotting material (towel) no longer shows any stain colour.
This process will work on all water soluble stains and the extent of its success is dependent on how soon after the spill the process is started.

Other Staining Materials.
Non water soluble stains such as grease, nail varnish and rust, etc, are best treated by a Chem-Dry carpet care professional who is equipped with a comprehensive arsenal of stain treatments. When large amounts of paint or varnish have been spilled, they penetrate deep into the fibers and backing materials and cannot be removed effectively. Small amounts can be treated by your local Chem-Dry professional using solvent cleaners.

Things You Should NOT do.
DO NOT Lift wet carpets or roll them up. This causes shrinkage and mildew.
DO NOT Rub the stain. Always blot up stains. Rubbing splays and damages fiber ends
DO NOT Dry carpets using excessive heat. Cool air blowers or dehumidifiers are best.
DO NOT Use solvents, detergents or turpentine. These can cause further damage.
